Well, I made the mistake of eating two cookies from one of those break apart and bake cookie kits. Bad decision. I had cramps yesterday and didn't sleep well last night. Needless to say, I didn't run yesterday. That's okay cause I planned on this being a laid back, rest kinda week anyway. When will I learn? It's like somewhere inside me I just can't accept the limits this chemical sensitivity thing puts on my lifestyle. Am I in denial? Always heard about that in psychiatric circles; thought it sounded kinda cool.
We have a hurricane visiting us this weekend. Actually, we are going to be on the outside edge, so I'm not expecting much more then some much needed rain and a gentle breeze. But it does keep me inside (along with regular runs to the bathroom, but we won't go there!). I am planning on spending some time in my meditation room today. I am also starting to think about my trip to Alaska next year. I purchased a Suzuki 650 V-Strom in 2009 with this trip in mind, and every summer since (well, only two, but still) I have been shown in very strong terms that this was not the time to go. I am hoping next year will be the time everything lines up in good order and I will be able to head north. My plans are to go all the way up the Haul Road (ie. the Dalton Highway) to Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean, but at least to Coldfoot inside the Arctic Circle. A lot will depend on the weather. From Fairbanks it is about 600 miles of gravel road and big trucks. I figure I will need about 8 weeks for the trip, leaving here on or about June 1st. I've considered looking for someone to ride with for this trip, but I think I'll do the usual solo venture. I think this is because I haven't been able to find anyone crazy enough to go with me. I do enjoy the solitude of solo motorcycle travel, though.
Anyway, I have 34 days until the Freedom's Run Marathon. My plans are to start ramping up the miles with a 7.5 mile run every Monday on the roads (read hills!) around my house, then a 20 mile run on the C&O Towpath next Friday. Upcoming Fridays will hopefully see 16 miles, then 22 miles, then 13 miles and rest for the big day. I received the electrolytes I ordered, so I am hoping they will help on my days of high heat and humidity. My weight is holding at 204 pounds, so I'm not sure if I will be able to meet my goal of 185 pounds for the marathon. Hopefully I'll get past this plateau soon and drop more pounds. So far I have lost around 30 pounds. Amazing how we don't seem to realize how fat we are until we are not fat anymore. I can feel the difference, though. I have scheduled an appointment with my doctor for September 15th to be sure everything looks good for undertaking the race. Can't help to be safe!
